Albania: The Fascinations and Beauties of the Undiscovered Pearl of the Adriatic

Discover the last touristically untouched corner of Europe. Pristine Albania is experiencing tremendous growth in infrastructure, tourism, and gastronomy. It resembles beautiful Croatia from 20 years ago.

It's surprising that the Albanian coast is not as frequently visited as the Croatian and Greek coasts. This undiscovered country combines everything we love:

  • mountains with wild, breathtaking nature,
  • azure sea lined with sandy beaches,
  • exotic cuisine with fresh fish and excellent wine,
  • modern beach promenades not yet overcrowded with tourists,
  • still-developing tourist industry,
  • perfect accessibility – a two-hour flight from Prague to Tirana,
  • half the prices compared to the Czech Republic.

Azure Sea – Adriatic and Ionian

Albania lies south of Montenegro. It is 72 kilometers from Italy, separated by the Otranto Strait. If you travel across the country, you will reach Greece. Albania boasts a total of 362 km of coastline. The southwestern part of the country is on the Ionian Sea, and the western part is on the Adriatic.

Around the Albanian Riviera, which stretches from the city of Durres to the rocky town of Saranda, modern tasteful promenades have been developed. Further south, you will discover romantic bays. White sand and Caribbean-turquoise sea can be found on the Ksamil Peninsula. Don’t miss Butrint with the ruins of the ancient city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The happenings on the Albanian Riviera are determined by the port city of Durrës – the fastest-growing location on the Riviera. It is a 30-minute drive from Tirana Airport. Local beaches are equipped with loungers, and accommodation is available in hotels and private apartments.

Gastronomy: When Greece Meets the Balkans

Do you enjoy fresh fish, juicy fruit, and great wine? In Albania, you can indulge in them to your heart’s content. The local cuisine is a blend of the best of the Mediterranean. Italian, Greek, and especially Balkan cuisine have their say.

The savory pastry byrek, fërgesë (baked peppers with cheese), baked dish tavë kosi with lamb, fried cheese kaškaval, grilled fish, fresh seafood, and as a finishing touch, sweet baklava – this is a culinary experience in Albania that won’t break the bank, even in a luxury establishment. Complement your diverse dinner with local wines renowned for their depth and sweetness, and end with a true Albanian coffee.

The pleasant experience in restaurants is enhanced by Albanian unobtrusive hospitality. A small gift like a dessert after a delicious lunch or a glass of wine that you receive as a bonus or is intentionally not added to your bill, even if you ordered it and genuinely enjoyed it.
